Fed Her In-Laws Beef with Mushrooms — Killed Three Guests!
On Monday (July 7), a court in Australia delivered the verdict. The case has sparked widespread attention around the world.
🍄 The Deadly Lunch
The incident actually occurred two years ago. Erin Patterson prepared lunch during a family gathering. The atmosphere during the meal was cheerful and filled with laughter. However, within a few days of eating the food, three of the guests died.
The poisonous mushroom used in the dish, known as "Death Cap," looks similar to edible varieties and has a sweet taste. It contains a toxin called amatoxin that damages internal organs and leads to death within days.
⚖️ Court Proceedings
Patterson claimed she accidentally mixed in the poisonous mushrooms into a dish made with beef and pastry. However, a 12-member jury found the 50-year-old Patterson guilty of murdering three people on Monday. She was also convicted of attempted murder of another guest, who luckily survived.

👪 The Victims
On July 29, 2023, Patterson hosted a small family lunch at her rural home. The guests included:
- Don and Gail Patterson (her husband's parents)
- Heather (her husband's aunt)
- Ian Wilkinson (her husband's uncle and local Baptist church pastor)
Within a week of consuming the meal, Don, Gail, and Heather all passed away. Ian Wilkinson miraculously survived after receiving intensive hospital care.
Patterson reportedly bought premium beef, mixed it with mushroom paste, and wrapped it in pastry to create "Beef Wellington." Before and after the meal, the guests prayed together. Heather even complimented the dish, calling it "delicious and wonderful."
